I bought a 100 piece bag of Mega Blocks from Wal-mart around Christmas time (2008) for $10. There were several odd pieces in the bag so there were not really a lot of building options. The kids have not been playing with them very much because of this. The Mega Blocks are not compatible with Lego brand building blocks. They also seem a little less durable.
However, I just found a great deal at graveyardmall.com. Great deals always make things better too. I found 40 piece sets with essential building pieces (only one color each) for $.99. I just bought 520 pieces (shipped to my home) for $22.86. Here is a link to some of the different colors
